Scouts Seek 600 Acre Planned Development Rezoning, Residents Not Pleased

Spring Hill is buzzing after a contentious meeting at the Sand Hill Scout Reservation on July 14. Coastal Engineering’s Donald Lacey presented a plan to rezone 604 acres along Cortez Boulevard. This land, gifted by Larry Die Polder, could be sold for commercial enterprises, even restaurants, sparking outrage from the roughly 20 residents attending.
Many locals were already upset, noting previous rezoning for 52 acres in 2025 and an additional 450 acres currently being explored for sale. Neighbors, like those who received one of the 1,400 letters, questioned the "mistake" in the initial notice for only 52 acres. Is this the future Spring Hill wants for its open spaces?

Hernando County Commission Approves The Farm Operation Expansion Requests

Spring Hill, your Hernando County Commissioners just made a big decision about a popular local spot. On July 7, The Farm at 19234 Lake Lindsey Road won approval to expand its operations to 52 days a year. The vote was a unanimous 4-0, with Commissioner Steve Champion and Ryan Amsler making the motion. But getting to 52 days wasn't easy; Joseph Conrad of Old Florida Forever LLC originally asked for 152.
That much larger request sparked concerns from Commissioners John Allocco and Jerry Campbell, who worried it would make The Farm "a business all the time," not a special exception. Staff even recommended denial! And what about noise after 10 p.m., a concern raised by citizen Mike Casey?
