News & Information

Central High School Bear Country (FB Page)

New educational strategies, specifically designed to advance students toward college and career readiness, are heading for "Bear Country" classrooms. Senior AVID elective teacher Ms. Skinner, alongside members of the local school administration, recently attended the AVID Summer Institute to acquire these valuable skills.

The Institute, centered on "Advancement Via Individual Determination" (AVID), provided extensive learning opportunities. Participants absorbed methods like WICOR — Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading — all crucial components for student success. The team expressed strong excitement about bringing these insights back home, aiming to directly integrate them into the local learning environment and empower students.

This commitment to professional development underscores an ongoing effort to equip our community's young people with vital tools for their futures. What tangible impact will these specific AVID techniques have on student outcomes and the overall educational experience in the coming academic year?

Bay News 9 (Hernando)

Hernando County commissioners just approved a moratorium, effectively halting new data center development. This decision followed homeowners voicing their opinions on the proposed facilities.

A second public hearing on data centers took place in Hernando County yesterday and was unanimously approved.

What new developments will emerge from this upcoming discussion?

Nature Coast News (FB Page)

Sizzling heat indexes, forecast to soar as high as 107 degrees, will relentlessly bake our community all week, posing a significant health risk for anyone spending time outdoors.

Daytime highs will regularly reach the low to mid-90s, but it's that oppressive 'feels like' temperature, climbing well past 100 degrees, that truly defines this extreme weather event. This isn't just uncomfortable; it's the main weather concern for the entire week, demanding everyone's attention and caution. Residents must prioritize safety: stay properly hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks if outdoor activities are unavoidable, and strictly limit exposure to the direct sun.

With these intense conditions predicted to persist without relief all week, how will our neighbors manage their daily lives and ensure the safety of every family member, from the youngest to the oldest, against this relentless heat?
