Brooksville offers runners one of Florida's most scenic and challenging races this coming spring, directly supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc Nature Coast invites everyone to its annual Spring Lake Memorial Classic 2-Mile / 5K / 10K on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at its Brooksville campus. Participants will navigate shaded, treelined roads and rolling hills in eastern Hernando County, tackling a course famous for its demanding elevation changes.
This isn't just a race; it's a chance to experience Florida's natural beauty, with oak and magnolia canopies overhead and potential sightings of hawks, deer, and wild turkeys. Proceeds from entry fees, starting at $25 for the 2-mile event, go directly to The Arc Nature Coast, funding crucial services for those they serve.

Over two months stand between now and the next Waterways Advisory Committee meeting. Officials cancelled the committee's session originally slated for Thursday, May 21, at 1:00 p.m. The WAC will not reconvene until July 16, 2026.
