The Hernando County Public Library System will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Spring Hill Branch on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The celebration will take place at the Spring Hill Library Branch, located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34608.
To commemorate this important milestone, the event will highlight twenty years of book discoveries, curious conversations, creative programs, and unforgettable moments shared with the community. Attendees can enjoy library memories, activities, refreshments, a balloon artist, and an opportunity to reflect on how far the library has come.
Insights from the Weeki Wachee River Summit
Everyone loves the Weeki Wachee River. Floating it, swimming it, posting pictures of it. Fewer people think about what it actually takes to keep it alive.
At a recent river summit, local experts and environmental groups laid out what’s really happening beneath the surface. There’s progress, real progress. A nine-acre restoration project has already planted more than 44,000 eelgrass units, and early results show strong growth, helping stabilize sediment, filter nutrients, and rebuild habitat for manatees and fish.
But it’s not that simple. Manatees are grazing on new growth, erosion is cutting into root systems, and saltwater intrusion is causing die-offs in some downstream areas.
That’s the tension. You’ve got people actively trying to restore the river, and forces working just as hard against them.
This isn’t one of those distant environmental stories you scroll past. This is your river. And the outcome depends on whether restoration efforts can outpace the damage already being done.
