News & Information

Hernando County is arming residents with essential tools for hurricane season. On May 26th, the Development Services Department's Floodplain Division hosts two free workshops, guiding locals through critical storm preparedness and safe recovery strategies.

These two sessions, identical in content, thoroughly cover crucial hurricane preparedness tips, safe recovery steps after a storm, permitting information following storm damage, and available recovery resources for residents. Locals choose between a 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM or 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM workshop, both conveniently held at the Hernando County Planning & Zoning Division, located at 1653 Blaise Dr. in Brooksville.

Securing your family and property against future storms starts with informed action. Attending one of these workshops provides essential knowledge you need to stay prepared. What proactive steps will you take to safeguard your home and family this year?

A single afternoon of rain did little to break Hernando County's severe drought, keeping the burn ban firmly in place. Deputy Fire Chief Kristian Sloane urged County Commissioners on May 12 to maintain the restriction, pointing to a worsening Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) that hit a severe 638 on May 11. This marks a significant jump from the 601 reported earlier, clearly showing conditions have deteriorated.

Even with scattered showers, officials warn residents that widespread dry conditions persist across the county. While welcome, a brief rainfall offers little relief, making fire prevention paramount. Residents must remain especially vigilant, not carelessly disposing of lit cigarettes and keeping vehicles off dry grass to prevent dangerous sparks.

Commissioners also heard meteorologists predict a "Super El Niño" might bring increased summer rainfall, potentially resolving the drought. Will these anticipated summer rains arrive soon enough to truly turn the tide on our parched county?

Paying to ditch your household trash and yard waste will soon become a reality for Hernando County residents. New fees at the East and West Hernando Convenience Centers take effect June 1, 2026. Residents will pay $5 for up to five bags of household trash or $15 per visit for loads exceeding five bags, bulk items, or yard waste. Crucially, recycling and residential household hazardous waste remain free, provided you separate and identify them properly.

Beyond convenience center changes, the Northwest Solid Waste Facility, our main landfill, will end its long-standing free 2,000-pound allowance. Instead, all waste brought to the landfill will now incur charges by weight. Convenience center use also faces tighter rules: residents get only one trip per day, regardless of how many properties they own, and trailers are limited to five visits annually. Remember, commercial waste and oversized vehicles are still strictly prohibited at these sites.

These significant policy shifts, effective June 1, 2026, mean residents will need to adapt their waste disposal habits. What impact will these updated fees and restrictions have on our community's waste management and local facilities in the long run?

Vehicle burglaries just jumped across Hernando County. This isn't complex crime; criminals simply walk car to car, checking door handles for unlocked vehicles and easy opportunities. They aren't forcing entry; they're exploiting convenience. This growing pattern means more neighbors are losing valuables, and it leaves our entire community feeling less secure.

Stopping these opportunistic crimes often takes mere moments, but it requires everyone's attention. Always lock your vehicle doors, remove all valuables, or at least keep them completely out of sight. When you can, park your car in well-lit areas. These quick, preventative steps significantly reduce your risk of becoming an easy target.

Beyond individual action, community vigilance also plays a critical role in deterring these incidents. If you spot suspicious activity in your neighborhood, don't hesitate to report it. With these simple habits and a watchful eye, can Hernando County truly curb this concerning rise in petty crime?

Men, You've Been Misinformed

Men's skin is about 25% thicker than women's, but thicker skin doesn't mean better aging. It means delayed collapse. For years, your skin looks resilient. Then collagen declines, and when it does, it drops hard: deeper wrinkles, heavier under-eye bags, more dark spots showing up all at once.

Most men were never taught to get ahead of this. Women were. And by the time the signs show up, you're playing catch-up.

Particle Face Cream was built precisely for this. One 6-in-1 formula engineered for men's skin — reduces eye bags, dark spots, and wrinkles, restores firmness, hydrates deeply, and revives dull tone. No complicated routine. Over 1,000,000 men already use it. Try it risk-free with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
