From picking fresh blackberries to hunting for Hotwheels treasures, and indulging in delicious food truck fare, there's something for everyone. Two Pinellas County playoff contenders, East Lake and St. Petersburg High, couldn't stop Nature Coast football last Wednesday, May 20. The Sharks traveled to St. Pete and swept their spring jamboree, defeating East Lake 14-3 and host St. Petersburg 14-0. This dominant showing demonstrates formidable potential for their upcoming season, especially given their largely young roster.
Head Coach Chris Hawley, an East Lake alum, challenged his team against strong competition to assess new quarterback Christian Garrett and the offensive line. Garrett delivered, connecting with Jackson DePetrillo for a 36-yard pass and scoring two touchdowns himself. Running back R.J. Jones, who rushed for over 1,300 yards last season, also punched in two scores and an interception against East Lake. Kayden Berton and Tron Hannah also grabbed key interceptions.
Despite the impressive wins, Hawley noted areas for improvement, especially in execution, suggesting the young team still has significant potential to unlock as only nine juniors make up the 54-player roster. With such a young, hungry squad, how far can the Sharks swim when the fall season officially kicks off?
