Getting around Spring Hill just changed in a big way. Two new bus routes are now live, opening up easier access across the county and even into Citrus, connecting everyday stops like Walmart, Publix, and key corridors throughout the area.

At the same time, local talent just made history. Nature Coast Technical High School didn’t just show up at the Broadway Star of the Future Awards, they dominated, taking home four major honors and earning a spot on stage at the Straz Center later this month.

On the tech side, scammers are now getting stalled by AI “grannies” designed to waste their time, flipping the script in the ongoing battle against online fraud.

And if you’re looking ahead, there’s a tourism event in Brooksville, a limited-seat firearms training course filling up fast, and a packed lineup of events leading straight into the Hernando County Blueberry Festival.

Starting May 4, 2026, TheBus expanded service with the introduction of two new bus routes, Route 10 and Route 11.

Cross-county travel just got easier, but you'll have to wait. On May 4, 2026, TheBus launches two brand-new routes, significantly expanding local access and extending service into Citrus County. Residents throughout the region gain new connections to essential services and key destinations.

Route 10 forms a vital north-south loop through East Spring Hill, connecting the Walmart on SR 50 and the Publix on County Line Road. This route links neighborhoods with essential services, hitting major corridors like Anderson Snow Road and Cortez Boulevard, and popular spots like Anderson Snow Park Splash Pad. Simultaneously, Route 11 pushes transit access beyond Hernando County, running a loop between the SR 50 Walmart and the Publix in Sugarmill Woods. It offers seamless regional connectivity with two-way service along Commercial Way (US-19), extending options for cross-county journeys.

History just happened for Hernando County performing arts. Nature Coast Technical High School shattered expectations, becoming the first school from our county to achieve this significant level of recognition at the Broadway Star of the Future Awards. In their debut year, NCT earned an impressive four prestigious honors, standing out among more than 60 competing Tampa Bay area schools. Their exceptional production, "Ride the Cyclone," swept top categories including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Direction, Leading Performance, and Featured Performance.

This groundbreaking success now propels NCT onto an even bigger stage. Broadway Star of the Future Awards organizers selected them as one of only five elite schools to perform in the coveted Outstanding Musical category at their annual showcase. Mark your calendars for May 17th, when our local talent takes the spotlight at Tampa’s Straz Center. Tech Talk: AI Grannies Take On Cyber Attackers

Scammers just met their match: a British phone company unleashes AI-powered "grannies" to combat online fraud. Virgin Media O2 developed "Daisy," an artificial intelligence designed to waste cybercriminals' time by engaging them in lengthy, aimless conversations about cats, family, and knitting. This clever strategy turns the tables on attackers, making cyber scams less profitable.

Artificial intelligence provides both criminals and defenders new tools in an escalating digital arms race. Attackers exploit vulnerabilities faster and launch more sophisticated, harder-to-detect assaults. Yet, defenders like Virgin Media O2 are finding novel ways to use AI, such as creating fake victims. By extending scammers' engagement for the same return, AI grannies aim to shift the risk-reward calculation, potentially making legitimate work more appealing than crime.

This innovative approach raises a crucial question: as AI tools evolve rapidly, will these digital decoys effectively deter online fraud, or are criminals already finding ways to bypass them?

Tourism Partners’ Exchange Set for May 6 in Brooksville

A "Golden Mermaid" for 2026 will be crowned, and Florida’s Adventure Coast is set to unveil a fresh new look next week in Brooksville. This inaugural Tourism Partners’ Exchange brings together local tourism players for crucial updates, fostering connections to boost our community's appeal.

Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitors Bureau hosts this important event Wednesday, May 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Broad Street Brewing. Attendees can connect with peers, hear directly from the bureau, and be among the first to see the redesigned brand. The gathering culminates with the exciting announcement of the 2026 Tourism Ambassador of the Year, officially known as the Golden Mermaid Award.

The bureau provides complimentary hors d’oeuvres and nonalcoholic beverages for all guests, with additional drinks available for purchase. As our community looks to the future of tourism, will these new initiatives and recognition propel the Adventure Coast to even greater heights?

The next session of 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (S.A.F.E.) is set for Friday, May 29, 2026. This will be the last session provided until the fall season.

S.A.F.E. is an interactive firearms training course available exclusively to Hernando County residents who either have a current concealed weapon permit or a firearms safety certificate.

The course provides participants with a wide array of information, interactive (firearms) simulations training, and includes instruction on the firing range with each participant firing 100 rounds from his/her personally owned weapon.

This special training will be provided by Hernando County Sheriff’s Office certified firearms instructors from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026. The training is limited to 12 participants, so register early! The cost of the course has been reduced to $50 due to recently receiving a grant to help pay for portions of the training.
