Some days feel routine. Then you look a little closer and realize a lot is actually happening.

Today’s issue starts with a Hollywood-style twist, a horror film crew just wrapped shooting inside Brooksville’s historic May-Stringer House, turning a local landmark into the backdrop for something a little darker. At the same time, the county is still under a burn ban as fire risks remain high, a reminder that one careless moment can escalate fast. We’re also covering a real opportunity for local business owners to connect directly with the county on upcoming projects, and a major political move as Congressman Gus Bilirakis officially launches his re-election campaign.

Then we get into your next few days. Strawberry and blackberry picking, the St. Joan of Arc Carnival, live music, drag racing, glow golf, food trucks across town, and enough events to make staying home feel like a questionable life choice.

If you want to stay informed and actually know what’s going on around you, without digging through ten different sources, keep scrolling.

Horror film director Joshua Shultz brought his "Boogeyman" crew to the historic May-Stringer House, giving our local landmark an unexpected starring role. The short film recently transformed the Victorian-style building into a chilling backdrop, with its grand opening slated for Brooksville.

Shultz specifically sought a Victorian-style home and found the May-Stringer ideal. For two and a half days, his California-based crew worked on the property. Curator Autumn Resch and museum board members kept a close eye on activities, ensuring the safety of the building and its artifacts. Resch confirmed the crew respected the museum and its historic items, and neighbor Debra King of the Dolan House extended hospitality to the filmmakers.

While the May-Stringer usually offers sedate ghost tours, this cinematic venture adds a thrilling new chapter to its story. With "Boogeyman" set to debut in Brooksville, how will our historic house translate its creepy charm to the big screen?

The risk of brush fires exploding across our neighborhoods remains high, pushing local authorities to keep the burn ban firmly in place. This means residents cannot light bonfires, campfires, or burn any yard debris for now. Even permitted gas and charcoal grills demand constant, watchful supervision to prevent tragedy.

Simple, everyday acts easily ignite dangerous brush fires. Tossing a lit cigarette, dragging trailer chains on the road, or using hot tools and equipment all pose significant threats. These fires spread rapidly and out of control, quickly endangering people and threatening homes and businesses across the community.

The burn ban continues indefinitely, remaining active until officials announce a change. Our community's safety depends on everyone's cooperation. If you spot a violation, report it directly to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office at 352-754-6830. What will it take to finally lift these restrictions, and how long must our community maintain this heightened vigilance?

The public attends for free, but officials encourage reservations. Understanding these connections and processes could position your company for Hernando County's next big opportunity. Will you be there to make your mark?

Campaign season just arrived early for Florida's 12th District. Veteran Representative Gus Bilirakis officially declared his bid for re-election in 2026, aiming to keep his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He confirmed his campaign by highlighting an extensive legislative track record and a dedicated, ongoing focus on economic relief for local constituents. This significant announcement officially kicks off the 2026 election cycle, setting an early and notable tone for the political contest in our community.

The experienced congressman, who represents our local Florida’s 12th District, specifically pointed to his history of active legislative involvement. He also emphasized his consistent focus on economic relief for area residents as reasons for seeking another term in Congress.

As the race for 2026 now begins in earnest, what will this early declaration mean for potential challengers and the evolving political dynamics right here in our neighborhoods?
