Local deputies are ready for a splash this Saturday, inviting families to cool down with free games and even a dunk tank. Hernando County's Sheriff's Office Community Policing Unit (COPPS) hosts its "Beat the Heat" event at Grace World Outreach Church, Saturday, June 13th, from 12 PM to 4 PM. This free afternoon features games, fun activities for all ages, and plenty of smiles, offering a direct chance to connect with the men and women who serve our community.
The event provides an opportunity to meet local deputies and enjoy summer fun. Families can bring the whole crew to "beat the heat" alongside their Community Policing Unit officers. It's a chance to connect with the community and enjoy various activities aimed at all ages.
Will this splash of community fun build stronger neighborhood ties, or just help everyone beat the summer heat?

Vital community services and family fun converge in Spring Hill next month as the Tax Collector's office opens its doors with a resource fair. Hernando County Government and Tax Collector Amy L. Blackburn host this family-friendly event, connecting residents with valuable resources, from signing up for library cards to registering to vote.
Attendees can also donate blood, explore health services from the Florida Department of Health, and meet representatives from other local organizations to learn about community programs. Expect a lively atmosphere too, with food trucks, a DJ, and activities for children. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 7701 Forest Oaks Blvd. Event organizers direct traffic to parking at the Florida Department of Health.
With so many essential services and family activities packed into one morning, what new connections will you make to strengthen our community?

Just one unattended cooking pot sparked a Spring Hill kitchen fire Thursday morning, but swift action by Hernando County Fire Rescue crews prevented what could have become a much more serious incident on Knotty Oaks Circle.
Firefighters rushed to the 3400 block after reports of the blaze. They arrived to find a light haze of smoke inside, quickly located the source – a cooking pot on the stove – and extinguished the flames. Crews promptly removed the pot, preventing any further smoke or fire damage to the home. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the incident.
Officials confirmed cooking caused the blaze, underscoring a vital safety message for our community. Hernando County Fire Rescue reminds residents to remain attentive while cooking and never leave food unattended on the stove. Cooking-related incidents consistently rank as a leading cause of residential fires. What steps will you take to keep your kitchen safe?
