Hope arrived on Beverly Court last Friday when the Salvation Army Hernando County Corps officially opened its brand new Spring Hill center. This expanded facility now offers a food pantry, worship programs, summer camps, and holiday assistance, providing crucial support and a "very warm welcome" to community members.
The center, which first welcomed visitors in January, celebrated its full completion with local leaders present. Lieutenant Criselda DeLeon expressed gratitude for the community's support, emphasizing their core mission. "What we really provide here...is hope," DeLeon stated, highlighting the center's spiritual and practical offerings.
Florida Divisional Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kent Davis marked the occasion as "far more than the opening of a building," calling it a "celebration of God’s faithfulness, the power of community and what can happen when people unite around a shared mission of serving others." Hernando County residents could soon pay more for trash collection and fire protection. Commissioners meet Tuesday to discuss proposed increases to solid waste disposal rates, annual solid waste assessments, and fire rescue service assessments.
The Board will hold public hearings on resolutions to adopt revised rates, fees, and charges for solid waste disposal at the county facility and convenience centers. They also consider increasing annual solid waste disposal assessment rates and amending non-ad valorem assessment rates for municipal service benefit units funding fire rescue services.
Beyond potential fee hikes, the Board will review significant projects. These include ratifying applications for federal grants to improve Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport's airfield electrical design and air traffic control tower equipment. They also consider awarding a $152,476 contract for the Ridge Manor Field Renovation Project for Parks and Recreation and a $165,979.61 change order for traffic signal improvements at Mariner and Landover Boulevards. What will the Board decide regarding these proposed increases and infrastructure investments affecting our local services and wallets?
