Big news for Alfred McKethan Pine Island Park! Mark your calendars for Monday, July 6, 2026, because our beloved beach is getting a schedule change. Starting then, the park will open daily at 10:00 a.m. and stay open seven days a week until sunset.
Why the new 10:00 a.m. start? This isn't just a minor tweak. It's to give Parks and Recreation staff dedicated time for routine maintenance, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained beach for everyone. How will this impact your morning beach plans, and what does it mean for Alfred McKethan Pine Island Park's future?

The Historic Hernando County Courthouse just got a patriotic facelift thanks to Brooksville Main Street and community volunteers. This Wednesday, July 1, they placed 500 miniature American flags on the lawn, meticulously shaping the number 250. It’s an early nod to the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.
This vibrant display sets the stage for Hernando County’s Salute to America 250 celebration at Sand Hill Scout Reservation on July 4. Want to know who helped plant each flag, including 6-year-old Marli Garman and Colleen Boorman? You won't believe how much detail went into this special tribute.

Spring Hill residents, brace yourselves for Independence Day schedule changes across Hernando County! Today, July 3, 2026, most Hernando County Government offices will be closed. Don't plan on visiting the Spring Hill Library, as all library branches are shut Friday and Saturday, reopening Tuesday, July 7.
Need to catch TheBus? It runs today, but takes a break on tomorrow, July 4. And while Coastal Waste & Recycling pickups won't change, get ready for possible collection delays next week. Find out which specific services are affected and avoid a wasted trip before the long holiday weekend.
Nature Coast News (FB Page)
Hernando County just issued a 60-day rabies alert after a cat tested positive for the virus on June 29 in the Dade City area off Westwood Drive. The Florida Department of Health is urging caution, reminding us that local wild animals like raccoons and bats already carry rabies. This isn't just a general warning.
Do you live inside the specific alert boundaries, from Coral Rock Drive north to Old Trilby Road south, or Lower Lake Road east to Nature Coast Boulevard west? Protecting your family and pets is crucial. Find out what immediate steps you must take if you, or your beloved companion, encounters an infected animal.
