Residents can learn lifesaving skills to reverse an overdose for free next month in Spring Hill. The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County hosts its Revive Awareness Day event on Saturday, June 6, teaching critical overdose prevention techniques and how to use naloxone, the vital medication that reverses an overdose's effects.
This crucial event, happening from Noon to 2 p.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library (9220 Spring Hill Drive), offers more than just education. Organizers will raise awareness about the importance of overdose prevention and provide access to lifesaving resources. Attendees will discover how to spot overdose signs and find programs supporting individuals with substance use disorder. The Hernando Community Coalition provides a free lunch. Securing your spot means registering beforehand.

Your local spot, Cypress Lake Preserve, temporarily closes its gates beginning today, June 1, 2026, as Hernando County Parks and Recreation undertakes scheduled maintenance. This three-to-four-day shutdown impacts visitors planning to use the preserve.
Park officials confirm the closure affects nearly the entire preserve, ensuring crews can safely complete their work. Only a small, designated section will remain open, accessible from Cortez Boulevard and Paul R. Steckle Lane – the area clearly marked as "the circled area" in official communications.
With most of the preserve temporarily off-limits, visitors must plan accordingly. Avoiding the closed areas isn't just about adhering to the rules; it directly helps maintenance crews perform their necessary tasks safely and efficiently.
